I’ve created a new section on my blog called Projects. This is where I’ll document all future projects into a series of blogs.
I thought about making videos but it would slow down my progress, adding additional work to what I know is going to be a big challenge to see through. I will make short clips to help get some ideas across and will document as best I can with photos and detailed blogs. Naturally some parts might remain private if I feel the information would be of detriment to any future product ideas that might become a real purchasable product. Some will, some definitely won’t ever see the light of day.
We’re starting with a project that will throw me in at the deep end, designing and building a Jimny specific Roof Tent. Yikes…
Honestly, typing this now I don’t expect to see a fully workable final product. I do expect to learn an absolute raft of new things and that’s the exciting bit. Additionally I do expect to spend way more than I’d ever want to on a Roof Tent, so let’s keep that a secret.
The first blog will be outlining the goals of the project and as always I’d love to hear your thoughts and recommendations in the comments.
I’m nervous, often can’t even drill a straight hole, however I do enjoy designing things and I’m becoming increasingly comfortable with Fusion 360, so that is where I’ll spend 80% of my time. Still a beginner for sure, but the best way to gain experience is having something you want to make. I’ll aim for an 80/20 design to build ratio. Working through as many of the problems as I can in design first. That should help me lower the cost of wasted materials. In theory, I’ll eat my words no doubt and you proper CAD wizards and real life product designers will be laughing the froth off your beers.
